I find it very distressful that two outstanding Black men appear to be at public odds at such a critical time in the history of our country. Despite my believing that the media was unfair in its criticism of Reverend Jerimiah Wright, parts of his Washington Press Club news conference was such a stark contrast to his Bill Moyers interview and made me question his motives. Some of his outrageous statements over shadowed the facts about Black Liberation Theology he so eloquently explained. But despite that, I think Senator Obama had no choice but to finally sever his ties with him today.
I had a friend send me this email of a letter she is sending to Dr. Wright that I totally agree with. I'd like to share it with you today without her name.
Dr. Wright, I initially was one of your defenders and said that people needed to listen to your words in their entirety and that there was some truth to what you were saying. Now I see you for what you really are – a self-serving, pompous ass! It's one thing for the media and Obama's critics to use clips from your sermons for their own purposes; it's another for you to go out on the speaking circuit at this critical time for your own purposes. It's evident that you don't care a thing about the first chance this country has had in years for real leadership, but only about your own profit. The bible talks about false prophets. You couldn't be doing a better job of the devil's work if Satan himself were here. I call on you to go back home and remain silent until this election is over. As of today, I'm starting a grass-roots campaign to get black churches and other organizations to cancel your speaking appearances, to get any publishers to cancel book deals, in other words to dry up your sources of funding. So you might as well get the dollar signs out of your eyes and go on back to the house. Your 15 minutes are up!
